The luxury and fashion watch industry has for a long time known that the majority of female consumers are primarily interested in what something looks like on them, what wearing a brand says about them, and how a brand or product fits into their current or idealized lifestyle. Apple is the only smartwatch maker that I am aware of who is seriously approaching the needs of female consumers. This represents a unique cultural shift in-house at Apple, who is still at its core a technology company - and best at producing functional products. The effort required to create fashion advertising for a technology company should not be downplayed. We will see how well Apple Watch competitors also approach this market.
Seiko Kinetic Direct Drive begins with the core Seiko Kinetic platform, which is a quartz movement that has an automatic rotor used to generate power for the movement. While Seiko Solar watches use light to power batteries through a photovoltaic cell in the dial, Seiko Kinetic (sometime called "auto-quartz") use the same principle as automatic mechanical watches to generate power. Only, instead of winding a spring, the rotors generate power that goes into a rechargeable battery.

There is a quirk to the movement which is amusing to talk about. It isn't a mistake, per se, but one of those horological oddities that really doesn't make sense at first. Also, you'll only know what I am talking about if you actually wear and use the watch. The power reserve indicator seems to go backwards. What does that mean? Well usually a power reserve indicator on a watch today moves "up" as it is wound. When numerals are on a power reserve scale the more you wind the watch the more the hand moves from "0" to a higher number. So if you compare the F.P. Journe Chronometre Souverain to most other watches with power reserve indicators today, you'd expect it to be at "0" when empty, and at "56" when full. However, the exact opposite is true. Why is that?
Even though Montblanc intends for the Montblanc e-Strap to fit on a variety of straps (eventually) they created a special leather NATO-style strap for it to work in tandem with the release of the Timewalker Urban Speed watch collection. Note that it isn't the only strap option available for the Timewalker Urban Speed watches. In a technical looking carbon-fiber pattern leather, the strap meant to hold the Montblanc e-Strap is very thin and has a buckle on the side. In all, I'd say the strap and Montblanc e-Strap combo work nicely.
A quick scan of the current Zenith El Primero helps to explain the choice of a 45mm case. While there are many options at 42mm, the 45mm sizing has been mostly reserved for for more expensive pieces like Stratos Flyback Rainbow or the Chronomaster Bullitt. If you prefer your watches on the larger side, it's hard to argue a solid chronograph that adds uncommon (to Zenith) features like screw-down crowns and 200m water resistance.
There will be games, activities and snacks, as well as a rare opportunity to see behind the often closed doors of high-end Swiss Watchmaking. If you are in NYC at the time and your child has an interest in mechanical pursuits – or you wish to see him or her make the first steps into the realms of horology at one of the all-time greats – then this might be an event you do not want them to miss! vacheron-constantin.com
The good sense isn't just in the fact that an app can monetize by helping people get their watches repaired or help them sell watches, but in Govberg's case, they actually can fulfill all of those things in-house, and they don't need to act as a middleman. Assuming watch collector adoption to Govberg My Watch Box is good, then it seems like a win-win solution for everyone. However, in my opinion, this is just the beginning of a service that can evolve into what watch collectors truly need.
IWC has offered precious little information about IWC Connect at this point, but in IWC's own words, "the idea behind this new innovation is to enable owners of IWC timepieces to control their connected environment directly from the wrist while also maintaining the integrity of a handcrafted mechanical timepiece." That certainly sounds like the Swiss we know. IWC Connect will take the form of a round module inserted into IWC straps which may or may not have an actual screen (though, I am guessing it does). IWC Connect will likely include Bluetooth and possibly NFC connectivity as well as "fully fledged activity tracking." That may possibly mean IWC now wants you to wear their watches to sleep.
The painting is hand-engraved and hand-painted, and depicts Columbus landing in the New World, with Columbus himself on the right-hand side holding the Spanish flag and natives on the left. In the background is a large and colorful parrot that is engraved and painted in excruciating detail, and further back, one can spy the three ships in which Columbus and his crew arrived – the Santa Maria, Niña, and Pinta. The entire painting is really fascinating to look at, and we could just stare at it for hours on end to take in all the details.
The new Rolex Day-Date 40 comes with an updated "President bracelet" design. The updates concern the integration of the bracelet to the case which has come to a point where it appears as though the bracelet and the case have been machined from the same block of metal. More importantly, Rolex now uses ceramic inserts to hold the links together, a notable development, as the use of ceramic will prevent the so-called "stretch" of the bracelet that can be seen on older Rolex bracelets which have been put through decades of wear. What might happen is that the metal inserts traditionally used get worn, making the links sit further apart from one another – because chances are that most of these watches will be worn for decades to come, and it is over time that the stretching of the bracelet becomes more noticeable, these ceramic inserts, Rolex says, will perform better at keeping the links of the bracelet as tight as they were when new. Furthermore, on the platinum bracelet, Rolex noted that the movement of the links could get somewhat limited because of the nature of the metal - but that is also said to be a thing of the past, thanks to the extremely hard surfaces of the ceramic inserts.

I wore it 'till it wore out, and I tried to keep it, but it ended up being written off when my Mum’s basement flooded—with sewage. Years later, I drew out the watch from memory in Adobe Illustrator, and kept my eyes on eBay for another like it. Last year on my birthday, I was drunken eBaying at 2am when I came across a lot of three ZOT watches, similar to the one I had. It cost me total for the lot with shipping.
The watch industry is a lot like the entertainment industry when company leaders need to be personalities and faces for entire companies in addition to what they produce. F.P. Journe the man does this best when simply explaining his products and proceeding to his next creation rather than building elaborate yarns about what his work means or is all about. To put it simply, he lives watch making, he loves classic watch making, and he loves nice, albeit practical things. Those are the inspirations behind his watches.
From there, you have the vintage diver-style Bulova Accutron II Lobster 96B232. This builds on the Bulova Snorkel watch from 2015 with an Omega-style case and internal rotating bezel. The 43.5 wide steel case connects to a Milanese mesh metal strap that really offers that retro dive watch feel. This color variation has a metallic blue dial with orange accents and is pleasantly legible. Having said that, like the snorkel before it, while you can go swimming with the Bulova Lobster, it is not a serious diving watch, with 100 meters of water resistance.
