So let's just leave it that customizing your watch, be it a Rolex, Audemars Piguet, or Panerai (the three most common luxury brands to be customized these days) is a rich man's game, and not without its risks. It isn't for the typically cautious consumer and it should not be done to your most treasured timepieces. So let's say that after being aware of all this, you are interested in buying a custom Rolex or other timepiece. Traditionally, you have been highly limited by colors - until now.

It is important to note that such online-only timed watch auctions aren't new. Companies in Europe such as Fellows or Auctionata have been engaged in this for a bit longer, though they seem to be a bit more focused on Europe where Christie's perhaps is able to cast a wider bidder net.

Rubber B is an American company which has been known to manufacture high-quality vulcanized rubber straps for Rolex and Panerai brand watches. What separates them from the majority of other third-party suppliers is that their straps are designed to follow the shape of the case of the watch they were made for with extreme accuracy. The brand's latest carbon-fiber-fused rubber strap is for one of Rolex's heftier models: the Rolex Deepsea.
Baselworld 2014 has just ended and there are a lot of new watches to digest. After all, Baselworld is the biggest watch and jewelry show of the calendar year and there were literally thousands of new watches on show. How do you make sense of it all? Fortunately we are here to help, because here are the top 10 watches that our Editor-in-Chief Ariel and Contributing Editor James Stacey saw at this year’s Baselworld.

The movement operates in a rather complex way, so much so that it took some consulting with Tim Grönefeld (one of the founders of the brand) to fully reveal what the G-03 in-house caliber actually does. First of all, the watch is wound and set through the crown but, as I implied further above, the crown functions differently than most traditional watches: instead of having to pull it out to select the time-setting "mode," the crown on the Parallax is pressed to switch between winding and setting the movement. In order to avoid confusion, a display is located on the dial at the 5 o'clock position, with a hand pointing to the selected function. When it points to 'W', the movement can be wound, however, after pressing the crown it switches to "S" for time setting – and this is when the rather unique hacking system comes into play.
Omega fans know that the Omega Speedmaster Dark Side Of The Moon is built on the Speedmaster Co-Axial Chronograph that was debuted just a few years ago as the most modern Speedmaster watch ever. We offered a full aBlogtoWatch review on the Speedmaster Co-Axial Chronograph here so that you can better understand it. Though we will go over it again briefly right now. The famed Speedmaster collection gained world fame in the late 1960s for being on the wrists of the Apollo 11 astronauts when they traveled to the moon. Since then Omega has left the collection relatively classic looking, but has updated it over the years. Nevertheless, the classic "Moonwatch" has always continued to be in production.
Lastly, I would like to add a category for "art" or "design" watches. It is difficult to define this category because by nature they are all different. The idea here is that these are timepieces which emphasize a designer's aesthetic values mixed with functionality. It is true that many watches emphasize art and aesthetic design over the functionality of the watch as a tool, but art watches focus on the concept that a watch is used as an artistic palette. Timepieces in this category can be both traditional or extremely modern, and often have the effect of being extremely polarizing. That means people tend to love them or hate them. If you are the type of person who like to "wear design," then art or design watches might be right for you.
Perhaps the biggest complaint people will have about the Seiko Prospex Kinetic GMT Diver's watch is the case size and thickness. In steel, the case is a full 47.5mm wide and rather high off the wrist. Again, that is part of the appeal, and it wears really nicely, but this is a larger watch for sure. This isn't necessary from a technological standpoint, but is really about going along with the traditional large size of the Tuna-style Seiko diver watch cases.
The main lesson from all of this is to ensure whenever you change the time that the crown is screwed back down properly and to take your watch to be water tested regularly. A common mistake is when people go on holiday, change to the local time, forget to screw down the crown properly and then go swimming while wearing the watch with disastrous results. As part of an annual battery change or water resistance check, any reputable workshop will change the gaskets at the same time and provide a receipt to prove water resistance has been retained.
Since the early 1960s, the Carrera has been a staple watch model of Heuer and later TAG Heuer. Developed as a lifestyle racing watch, the Carrera remains one of the most important timepiece families of the 20th century in regard to its importance as a collectible and how it has influenced timepiece design for over 50 years. Today, I am going to look at a rather unique version of the Carrera that certainly sits toward the higher-end of the collection. This is the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 36 Racing watch, and this article is actually the third piece we've done on it.
I realize that many of you are seeing an MCT watch for the first time, so what is happening on the dial may be confusing. Well, allow me to explain: The watch indicates the hour at four points around the dial via turning triangular louvers. Between them all 12 hours can be displayed. There is a traditional minute hand that goes around the dial, and when a new hour comes the C-shaped window in the middle of the case pivots one position clockwise to point to the next set of louvers that display the current hour. The system is not only legible because of the digital hour system, but because of how easy it is to see all the information. This is pure time telling art, and very much a success despite being so unorthodox.

The new case is actually pretty nice. Even though it is a bit dressy being all polished, it still has sporty elements. Those include the integrated crown guards as well as the inset sections on the sides of the case. ArtyA had and will continue to have a lot of success with their larger 47mm wide case, but for those who simply couldn't pull it off or wanted something a bit more mainstream, this new 44mm wide case will certainly please.
Covering our top list of watches from the Baselworld watch trade show (in Basel, Switzerland) is an annual ritual and these appear to be widely relied upon by both watch retailers and buyers.
