Zenith Academy Christophe Colomb Hurricane Watch Hands-On Hands-On

From a design perspective, the cases and dials aren't bad. Nothing to write home about, but classic and soothing to the eye in a vintage military sort of way. Looks like a cross between a Bell & Ross mixed with a lot of Swiss Army Victorinox DNA. There is some manner of luminant on the dials and the hour markers are applied - which is a positive. You get the distinct impression that Fossil wanted to come out the Swiss doors with a very safe design, do nothing particularly new, and see how it went. Though I still have no idea who the target demographic for these watches will be. At about half the price, they might be a strong buy.

So, imagine now that you are at home in London and you are flying to New York. Your home time will always be showing you London time in a 24 hour format (so you know if it is day or night at home). When you land in New York, all you have to do is to use the little pusher to advance the city wheel to New York, aligned with the marker at 12 o’clock, and the main hand moves synchronously to show you local time in New York. Simple and effortless wouldn't you say?

It would be fantastic to play with one of these, and as a collectible knife I can't think of what might be cooler. The detailing is really impressive, and all the parts which are meant to move do move (such as the aperture over the hinge). You can see more in the video. Even the box is fantastic and includes more hand-placed rivets just like the body of the Time Machine knife itself. Oh, and these images are either from Van Barnett's site or the property of the people mentioned at the bottom of the images such as PrairieDigitalPhotography. Prices for the knives start at ,500 while Van Barnett's art and object go up from there in price. Good luck getting on the list.

For 2013 Bell & Ross will once again offer up a few new "Aviation Instrument" themed collection of watches based on the BR 01 (BR01) case. I believe this is the third or fourth year of doing so and it began with pieces like the BR 01 Compass and then the BR 01 Radar watch. The concept of the piece is to be even more directly "instrument" inspired even though the Bell & Ross BR 01 is called the "Instrument." Having said that, the standard BR 01 watches are straightforward standard watch dials while the Aviation Instrument collection are a bit more "interpretive."

Simple answer, YES. Reasoning, well, that can be summarized in these three points:

MSJ: I'm a small time collector and a big time enthusiast, which is really only that way around due to finances. I love the design aspect, and the story behind each piece, but the guts of the watch are equally as important. That's the best part!

As co-founder, Nick English explained to me, the reason for deciding to have a flagship store was beneficial on so many levels that it was something that just had to be done. The boutique would be first and foremost a place where fans and new customers could come to have a proper experience of the brand. Not only would there be ample space to see and interact with the entire range, the interior decoration and the unique pieces displayed about the store would add an entirely more visceral and intense experience. Little details like the aviation inspired aluminium countertop for example are the types of things that just add a little tinge of delight.

Winners Of The Starmus Festival Received Gold Omega Speedmaster

Brands like Gucci, Bulgari, and Chanel have very long and interesting histories making great watches. It just takes some experience and research as a discerning consumer, to learn which labels make watches worth looking at, and whose timepieces you may feel are better left for "everyone else."

For me a chronograph is a more complex tool watch meant for measuring sports rather than engaging in them. The Sea Hawk wins out in terms of looking like it can survive anything. Gentlemen will however likely gravitate more toward the new Chrono Hawk. It is by no means a "formal dress" watch, but it is more elegant in its stance and persona. Attached to the Chrono Hawk is rubber mixed with leather strap in two colors. Look for these soon and more Girard-Perregaux sport watches to come in the future.

Jaquet Droz is about to officially announce their new automata-based minute repeater watch called The Bird Repeater. Yup, that's right. Last March during Basel I got to view a computer rendering animation of the watch in action. While the minute repeater is activated a few things happen on the dial. Among those include a "moving" waterfall as well as a mother bird feeding a chick that hatches from an egg. Automaton birds are deeply part of Jaquet Droz's original history. While the concept is "original," the detailing and execution is really impressive.

Speedy Tuesday Event At The ESA Visitor Centre

The automatic movement has a power reserve of 42 hours - nothing crazy there - and its balance wheel beats at the pace of 28,800 vibrations per hour - a fairly high rate that improves accuracy. On day one I set the watch to my iPhone - which was daily synchronized - and after two weeks, the watch had been a mere two seconds off. This is extremely good (at night, I laid it on a table in the crown down position and fully wound it every morning when putting it on). The decorations on the movement are done beautifully: swirled côtes de Genève and perlage finishing had been flawlessly applied, while the skeletonized rotor is gold-plated with added weight on its peripheries for enhanced winding efficiency. I must say that all decorations and inscriptions are done wonderfully, nothing appears to be boldly or perfunctorily executed.

Probably the most important element of the HM3 MegaWind is how you tell the time - this is where the most obvious "improvement" comes into play. The original HM3 was typically criticized for being hard to read... and it was. The HM3 MegaWind takes some production cues from the Frog to help retain the conical time tower design of the HM3, but improves it. Thus, the two cones are taller, totally wrapped in sapphire crystal, and now finally fully able to be read from the side or from the top.

NOMOS Tangomat GMT Watch Review Wrist Time Reviews
NOMOS as a company is a breath of fresh air for the watch industry.  A no-nonsense German brand that respects its Glashütte origin while providing top notch products and services to watch lovers everywhere.  I for one cannot wait to see what else they will be coming up with at Basel this year.  An in-house chronograph perhaps? Oh, I can already see my wallet complaining, well not too much, I am sure...  nomos-glashuette.com
Necessary Data
>Brand: NOMOS
>Model: Tangomat GMT
>Price: ,750
>Size: 40mm x 11mm (50mm lug to lug)
>Weight: 70g (with strap)
>Would reviewer personally wear it: Yes
>Friend we'd recommend it to first: Guy or gal who travels frequently and wants a GMT or world timer that is understated yet has horological pedigree and that will not break the bank.
>Worst characteristic of watch: GMT cutout showing the city airport code should also be showing three entries like the home-time or a pusher at 4 o'clock to move the city ring in the other direction.  Also, while the strap quality is excellent, I think the tang buckle is a bit fragile...  I cannot say for sure that it will break but it feels fragile and cheaply made, compared to the rest of the watch.
>Best characteristic of watch: Easy, the movement.  The NOMOS Xi movement is superbly executed, decorated, and is very accurate.  A joy to look at and never fails to bring a smile on my face every time I peak at it via transparent sapphire caseback.

GMT Replica Watch

Legibility is a key factor for of all pilots watches and that necessitates the use of large and effortlessly distinguishable hands, easy-to-read numerals and proper contrast between all of these elements on the dial. Consequently, all three watches have gold-plated luminous hands as well as luminous numerals that contrast nicely against the black dial to provide strong legibility, even in low-light conditions. The cases are stainless steel and measure 41 millimeters in diameter - but don't forget that excludes the added width of the long winding stem and the rather large crown!

JS Watch Frisland 1941 Aviator Watch Releases

In contrast to the often minimalist look of other Piaget Black Tie watches, the Gouverneur is more busy in its approach. While it is not a 1950's era design, it does seem to have that era's hallmark fascination for sunburst displays and dauphine hands. It is actually a very retro design without feeling at all retro. You saw elements of this sunburst design in a more complex form in something like the Piaget Emperador Coussin Tourbillon (which was a rather spectacular thing from a mechanical standpoint), as well as many other Emperador and Emperador Coussin models. While the Gouverneur has redundant markers on the dial, they are all there in the name of style, and I think they work best on the three-hand models. Those models seem to have the right mix of complexity and breathing room. By the way, the three-hand models contain Piaget's well regarded in-house made 800P automatic movement that is visible through the sapphire caseback window. Finishing on the movement is as always, pretty sexy and is has a power reserve of 80 hours (pretty good for a 4mm thick movement).

The Countdown Started

That's quite good, though the gaps at 3/6/12 bug me a bit. No problem reading the time at night, and no problem discerning the hour and 24-hour hands.

According to Time Timer, the concept of their watches was to produce timing devices that were more visual, especially for children or people with learning disabilities. Having said that, it has been my experience that visual interpretations of time are excellent for people who have time management problems or when tasks needs to be completed within a certain amount of time (such as a test, presentation, performance, etc..). Why? Well it has to do with our minds conceptualizing the remaining time of an event as part of a whole. Pie chart or bar style indicators or time elapsed allow us to understand how much time we had/have total, and how much is left as a function of the original time. That is a much easier concept to grasp than saying we have "5 or 10 minutes" left... unless your mind has a perfect appreciation for exactly how long that is.

A bit of backstory seems helpful here. I was at Sandia National Labs for about five years while at university, and ours was a high-radiation laboratory. (Small-angle x-ray scattering, details published here.) I worked in a radiation area, and also had the rare opportunity to do experiments on the Sandia 2MW reactor as well as neutrons at Los Alamos. I've had lots of time using radiation detectors of all kinds.
